Friday, Aug. 25, 6 – 7 p.m. Gresham Room, Ashland Public Library

Saturday, Aug. 26, 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. Hike to Grizzly Peak

Hike & Learn with the Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument will host their August event with a hike diving into the interesting topic of pyrodiversity on the monument. Dr. Dennis Odion, ecologist with the National Park Service, will host this free event.

On Friday night, join us in the Gresham Room at the Ashland Public Library in Ashland Oregon. Dr. Odion will discuss fire as an ecological process that is key to the monument’s biodiversity. He will also discuss plant adaptations to fire and ongoing politics around fire management. The Saturday hike will take us up to Grizzly Peak for some amazing views and to look at an ecosystem recently touched by fire.

Dr. Dennis Odion received his PhD in geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1995. He has a long history in research and for the past 13 years has worked with the Klamath Network of the National Park Service developing long term monitoring and mapping programs in national parks.
